Do you cringe when you hear the ice cream truck jingling down your street, knowing your kids will all be screaming for ice cream?  You can make your own healthy popsicles with fresh or frozen fruit to get the kids to not only stay away from unhealthy treats, but to get them to eat more fruit as well.  It’s easy, healthy and a great way to use up an abundance of fruit from your garden or the farmers market.

How to Make Homemade Fruit Popsicles

Making homemade fruit popsicles is simple:  just puree 2-3 seasonal fruits in theblender with a little raw honey.  Use a sieve to strain out any seeds, such as blackberry, for smooth, seedless pops.  Pour into individual popsicle molds or paper cups, leaving room for expansion during freezing.  Freeze for 1 hour, insert a craft stick in each mold, put back into the freezer to finish freezing for several hours until hardened.  That’s it!

Make your own favorite unique blends by combining herbs such as lavender or mint, yogurt, kefir, raw whole milk, or even lemon juice to the mix.  Kids love wild flavors so look at wild flavors listed on favorite frozen treats, and make your own using real food ingredients.

Here are some favorite homemade fruit popsicle recipes to get you started:

Creamy Peach Popsicles

2 large peaches, peeled and sliced ~or~ 2 cups frozen sliced peaches, thawed

1 cup raw whole milk

1/3 cup honey

Puree peaches, milk and honey in the blender for 2 minutes until rich and smooth.  Pour into molds and freeze for 4-5 hours.

Honeydew Yogurt Popsicles

2 cups vanilla yogurt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

¼ cup raw honey

2 cups fresh honeydew chunks, divided

Put the yogurt, vanilla extract, lemon juice, honey and 1 cup of the honeydew into the blender and puree.  Add the rest of the honeydew and just pulse enough to break the melon into small pieces.  Pour into molds and freeze 4- 5 hours.

Triple Berry Popsicles

1 ½ cups fresh strawberries

1 cup fresh blueberries

1 cup fresh raspberries

1/3 cup raw honey

½ cup organic white grape juice

Puree for 2 minutes and pour through a sieve to remove seeds.  Pour into molds and freeze 4-5 hours.

Chill out to summer with your favorite homemade fruit popsicles!  You’ll feel good giving your family real food treats that are healthy—and still satisfy the craving for something cold and sweet.
