Did you know that in some cultures a meal can last for hours? Families sit with each other, eat, talk and drink late into the evening. They don’t rush to finish their meals in a few minutes like many of us in the West do. Most of us eat as fast as possible and get on with our day. Is eating fast a problem or even harmful? Yes, and here are some reasons why you should eat more slowly and mindfully.

Eating Slower Helps You Lose Weight

When you eat slowly, you control the amount of food you consume and it will be easier to notice when you’re full. Mindful eating is taking the time to notice how your body is responding to the taste and texture of your meal and listening to the signals your body sends you when it is full.

Taste What You Eat

Eating slowly allows you to taste your food. So many of us gulp down our food in a hurry, barely taking the time to fully experience the smells, flavors and textures. Slow down and meals will be more interesting and enjoyable.

Improve Digestion

Eating slower improves digestion because it gives your stomach more time to process the food.

So slow down and relax, and mealtime will be much more enjoyable. To learn more about how to be mindful, check out this site
